Saw this Reuters story about tech firms like Dell turning to 'social media' to promote their products... 'realizing' that consumers actually want to have conversations with producers of products. Dell hire around 40 staff to interact with consumers through blogs and third party sites.
In New Zealand, I've been having conversations with my ISP Orcon via Twitter. I wonder how many staff @orcon hire for social media outreach? I see from Computerworld NZ that Yellow Pages are planning a social media and e-business 'push'. If they're lucky that push may actually get the sad Yellow Pages website some users.
Where it concerns social media and online presence, companies like Orcon are light years ahead of juggernauts such as Telecom NZ, a very traditional 'old business' whose service standards leave much to be desired as I posted about here.
